There has been lot of talk about this movie as some kind of 300 meets Clash of the Titans mix. I can tell you one thing, 300 is a masterpiece for Immortals. I actually enjoyed 300, but this movie kinda missed a lot of stuff to even in a same level as 300. Before I watched the movie I checked the IMDB score and it was nice – 7/10. I was pretty optimistic, but my optimism was long gone before the end of movie.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just getting older and I don’t buy this type of movies anymore cuz I try to find some story in movies, some more interesting characters and not just a nice picture. Ok, whats the story, the bad guy is evil king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and he is looking for a legendary Epirus Bow that’s was forged by god Ares and can shoot more then one magical arrow at the time, nice weapon for sure. The good guy is Theseus, bastard son in the movie, but kinda semi god since his mother slept with king Aegeus and Poseidon in same night (yeah, remember it’s a myth) and after his mother is killed by Hyperion during one of the village raids, Theseus joins the fight against Hyperion who wants to release Titans from their prison.
I liked the Mickey Rourke as Hyperion, but rest of the actors didn’t do a good job, or maybe its just a bad script overall, since I saw those actors doing pretty good in different movies. Theres so many Greek mythology plot holes that’s make no sense to start talking about them. The movie is all about looking good, the battle scenes are really good and the visually the movie rocks, but aside that its boring as hell. Also I was under the impression that Titans in Greek myths are powerful huge beings like the word titan implies – well not in this movie.
To end it, it’s a crappy movie that looks awesome. If you like blood and gore, theres plenty of that, but if you look for a good story, wait for a DVD to at least see the visuals. It’s a movie for people who enjoy actions, like whole Call of Duty generation (I don’t think people play it for the story) so even if you decide to go and check it out, skip the 3D version, expect few good scenes rest is pretty bad. I so need to watch some good movie with a good story to wash out this experience from my mind.
