In a world that Andrew Niccol made you dont need money, you need only time. Everyone has tattoo on their arm with ten digits which glows and change accordingly to what they do. The thing is, you are getting older till you are 25 and then you have one more year to decide what to do – buy more time or die. If you are rich, you can buy 100 years and more, but if you are just a member of normal working class you prolly cant afford that. You work for extra time, but salary is not very big – hours and days but you also pay for things with your time. So in a sense – time is money in the future.
When you ran out of time, you just fall on the ground dead. To make things worst, whole world is divided into time zones or some kind of castes. The poor people are on the bottom and they cant make enough of time working so death is a normal thing there and in the top caste are rich people who can pretty much live forever. To move up on the caste you need to pay it with few months of your time which the poor people cant afford.
During the movie theres lots of Darwin quote “survival of the strongest” even though it doesn’t make much sense since if you are born in rich family you will prolly live a long life even if you are not the strongest. Maybe the line “survival of the more privileged” would fit better. There are some interesting scenes in the movie, like one where young rich Vincent Karthesier introduce his mother, wife and daughter in they are all looking same age.
Olivia Wilde plays mother of the main actor Justin Timberlake is even in the real world younger then him. Visual design of the movie is pretty good but the movie also have some flaws there where it should be the strongest – script. Just when the movie should hit the peak it goes into clichés we seen so many times. Also the movie should be like an expensive blockbuster but except the visual design, it lacks more characters so it leaves a feeling that they really put a lot of attention to the movie budget.
