Supernatural – Half Season 7 Review

After pretty disappointing  Season 6 when producer Eric Kripke left the helm of the show, Sera Gamble took over and I have a feeling she didn’t grasp the helm hard enough so the show was moving from left to right whole Season 6. If you would ask me now what was the story of the last season, I would say – it had something to do with angels and filler episodes. In other words total mess. The first episode of that season was top worst opening of Supernatural season ever.

supernaturalSince the main actors had signed contract for 6 seasons, and that last didn’t produced lots of cheers  there was a question will the show continue. For the luck of all fans, myself included, it was renewed for the Season 7. That was a first step and now Sera Gamble got a second chance to fix things and I think she learned on her mistakes in last season.

The start of the Season 7 was pretty intensive, Castiel took too many souls from Purgatory and with them he took some he shouldn’t. Ancient beings called Leviathans took over Castiel body and he started to go mad and play the new God. He was getting worse and worse and then the Leviathans broke lose and spread among the population taking new hosts, mostly very useful and powerful people. They feed on the humans and can’t be killed so easy, plus they can shape shift into any human just with a little DNA touch.

supernaturalThe whole story of the Angelic war is kinda over with Castiels death, well at least the body because we don’t really know what happened to him. So we lost one of the important members of the crew, but Bobby starts to show up in the show more often and that’s good because we all like his character, at least I think we all do. Sam is still messed up in the head from the Hell time and the barrier Death put is gone, so he suffers flashbacks and start to see things. Eventually he keeps it under control and the show gets back to the old tracks, the Leviathans are always there, messing with them so much that they had to drop the Impala and lay low, but they still have the casual supernatural cases to check out. Also Mark Sheppard as Crowley is superb, I have seen that actor in Battlestar Galactica and Medium and one of best recurring roles in Supernatural.

So far the really plan of Leviathans didn’t went on the surface but they are doing some experiments on humans, so enslaving human population looks like a good direction plus they have to eat also. The story is building little by little and it actually gets better and better. The brothers solved some issues between them and Bobby is like a father figure keeping everything under control, more or less. The last episode brings one of shocking ones, kinda similar to Walking Dead, with a twist “I didn’t expect to see this”.

supernaturalBobby gets shot in a head by main Leviathan and falls in the coma. Then we have whole episode of him running from the Reaper who wants to take him across, but Bobby has something important to give to the brothers so he needs to find a way to fight it and he has less and less time. In coma state his old friend Rufus is helping him how to find his way back out of Death’s door. Eventually he gets awake from coma to deliver the information about Leviathans and just when everything looks with a good ending, he gets flat line. He gets back to Reaper and last chance to decide if he will cross over or stay behind as a ghost. His answer we will get in February 2012. Damn winter brake.

Overall, Season 7 so far showed much more the previous season and I hope they won’t mess things up till the end. I definitely hope that Bobby won’t drop out of show as one of main characters because that will piss off many fans. Also my personal opinion is that show should end with a Season 7, one good solid ending that will please the fans, but not to just stay in our memories as a good show but it has a lot of potential for a big screen. Lately we see lots of shows trying on the big screen and to be honest how can a 24 Hours become 2 hours movie, its called 24 Hours for a reason. Also Entourage, I liked the show, but I don’t see it as a movie, while Supernatural has much more to give. Something X-Files had but they didn’t do it right. Also after 7 seasons the guys might want to try something else, the worst thing is when show drags too long and stops with crappy ending.

So lets see how Winchesters deal with Leviathans and how the Season ends. Hopefully with Bobby alive.
