Chris Evans reveals Captain America details
August, 16. 2010.
Speaking to MTV earlier this year at Comic-con, Chris Evans revealed details regarding his preperation for the role of Captain America, his character’s relationship to co-star Sebastian Stan’s Bucky as well as the general tone of the movie.
In the ex-Human Torch’s conversation with MTV, the details of which were released as several separate stories since Comic-con, Evans spoke of his trepidation in taking the role,
It wasn’t an easy yes. I was nervous… I get nervous in things like this and Captain America just means a lot of this. I was in a really happy place in my life; kind of in a happy medium place in my career and Captain America just changes things and there’s no ‘off’ switch once you walk down that road… There was nothing wrong with the project… I love the people involved, the characters, the script, Hugo Weaving. There was nothing wrong there. It was just about the lifestyle change and whether or not I was willing to do it. But there’s no turning back now. I’m just trying to make all the negatives [into] positives and just enjoy the ride.

Captain America filming locations revealed
August, 3. 2010.
BBC News has learned some of the filming locations for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger ( some spoilers ahead):
America's First Avenger will battle his foes on the streets of Manchester and Liverpool during filming on the big-budget superhero film.
Manchester's Northern Quarter is to be transformed into 1940s New York for a dramatic car chase in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Producers chose the Northern Quarter to recreate New York because of its towering buildings and pre-war architecture.
The location was organised through the Vision+Media film office, based at Mediacity in Salford Quays, which brought the big budget production of Sherlock Holmes to Manchester and Liverpool.
Susan Williams, drama liaison manager, said the company was approached by the studio, which is also behind the successful Spider Man and Hulk films, in February.
"We suggested the area to Marvel as its wide streets, towering buildings and pre-war architecture will make the perfect 1940s New York."
Residents, local businesses and Manchester City Council have all been consulted about the production, which will last about two weeks from mid September.
Details of scenes due to be filmed at Liverpool's Stanley Dock are yet to be finalised.

Marvel presents "Captain America"
July, 25. 2010.
Arguably the most anticipated presentation of Comic-Con 2010, the Marvel Studios panel takes place today at 6pm in Hall H. It is of course the real introduction to Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America.
Screen Rant was present in the first row to give you the live coverage and share with you all of the major announcements. Check out what happened play-by-play and how we, the fans, were introduced to Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.
Panel
Geoff Boucher (LA Times) is moderating. Kevin Feige, Marvel president of production first introduced. Boucher asks him to talk about Thor and Captain America.
- Feige says there was some skepticism that this could happen back when they announced the line-up of films 2 years ago. At end of this panel, he promises that skepticism will be gone.

Joe Johnston about "Captain America"
July, 21. 2010.
The director of " Captain America: The First Avenger," the 2011 summer blockbuster that will coincide with the character's 70th anniversary, says the screen version of the hero will be true to his roots -- up to a certain point.
"We're sort of putting a slightly different spin on Steve Rogers," said Joe Johnston, whose past directing credits include " Jurassic Park III" and " Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." He's a guy that wants to serve his country, but he's not a flag-waver. We're reinterpreting, sort of, what the comic book version of Steve Rogers was."
None of that is surprising, of course -- Christopher Nolan pared away significant parts of the Batman mythology (such as Robin the Boy Wonder and any super-powered villains) that didn't fit his grim take on Gotham City, while Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. manufactured a version of Iron Man that is hard-wired for far more humor than the old-school Marvel Comics character.

"Captain America" poster revealed at Comic-Con
July, 20. 2010.
Get ready for your minds to be blown Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger fans, for Yahoo have just posted the first posters for Thor and Captain America ahead of Comic-Con 2010.
I may be wrong but I don’t remember a time when two movies that were effectively stand alone had such a parallel marketing campaign. These new posters released by Marvel / Paramount Pictures are more like concept drawings but show both Thor and Captain America in battle. They also tie in nicely with the high resolution image that Alex put up earlier today of the Throne Room from Thor.
If you look very closely at the images, they both seem to have been signed by two different artists. The Thor poster was designed by Charlie Wen and the Captain America poster by Ryan Meinerding. I’ve just done a bit more research on Ryan Meinerding and you can check out more of his work on his website here and Charlie Wen’s blog is here.

"Captain America" is gonna be in 3D
July, 14. 2010.
Whether you love it or hate it, 3-D is the new hot thing in Hollywood, thanks in large part to the phenomenal success of James Cameron's Avatar and to the higher ticket prices that can be charged for 3-D attractions. As such, it's no surprise that 3-D is being paired up with the hottest movie genre in Hollywood — superhero movies.
In an announcement released via the L.A. Times early this morning, Marvel Studios has confirmed that its next two comic book movies, Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America, will be released in 3-D.

Warscenes will be filmed in Wales
July, 7. 2010.
WARTIME scenes for Marvel's Captain America movie will be filmed in the Welsh village of Caerwent, according to a report.
The movie began filming in the UK a week ago, with Chris Evans in the title role as puny soldier Steve Rogers who is transformed into a musclebound mascot by an experimental serum.
According to On Location Vacations, filming will take place in Manchester in September before moving to Caerwent for two weeks "to film war scenes."
The Manchester shoot will involve Hilton Street being closed and converted into 1940s New York by covering buildings with artificial shop fronts, reports Comic Book Movie.
Caerwent, in Monmouthshire, was founded by the Romans and has some of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Europe. It also has a former wartime factory - once used to make explosives and store ammunition - which is now a training base for troops. Exact filming locations in the area haven't been disclosed.
Captain America: The First Avenger also stars Hayley Atwell as love interest Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as sidekick Bucky, Hugo Weaving as Nazi baddie Red Skull, Toby Jones as secondary villain Arnim Zola and Tommy Lee Jones as the general behind the supersoldier experiment. It's pegged for release on July 22, 2011.

Cooper plays young Howard Stark
June, 29. 2010.
Back in May, while promoting his film Tamara Drewe at the Cannes Film Festival, Dominic Cooper let the news slip that he would be playing the young Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger. But just like the Tommy Lee Jones story from yesterday, it's nice to have a confirmation, and now we have it: Cooper is officially the young John Slattery.
Marvel has issued a press release confirming that the role of Stark officially belongs to Cooper. While the announcement doesn't include any information about how he will be involved in the plot of the film, Stark is best known as the father of Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) and the founder of Stark Industries, but, covertly, was also one of the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D., the secret government organization that oversees all superhero activity in America.

Marvel Studios has announced that Stanley Tucci has joined the cast of Joe Johnston’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”, and will be playing Dr. Abraham Erskine. Tucci joins a cast that includes Evans as the Star Spangled Avenger, Sebastian Stan as his sidekick Bucky, Hugo Weaving as bad guy The Red Skull, and lovely British lass Hayley Atwell as lovely British lass Peggy Carter.

Neal McDonough joins Captain America as Dum Dum Dogan
June, 4. 2010.
The start of production on Marvel Studios' The First Avenger: Captain America is just a month away and negotiations are still ongoing for principal actors. It was announced that Dominic Cooper had been signed on to play Iron Man's dad. Then, Hayley Atwell, who will play Captain America's love interest, Peggy Carter, let slip that Tommy Lee Jones had joined the cast in an unspecified role. Now, Deadline has reported that Neal McDonough is in talks to play one of Cap's war buddies, Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan.
In the Marvel comic books on which the movie is based, Dum Dum Dugan was a circus strongman who helped Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson in the Iron Man movies) escape the Nazis, he later joined the British army. When Fury formed his elite team of "Howling Commandos," he made Dugan his second in command. The team would share many adventures with Captain America throughout the war, until the "Star-Spangled Avenger" took a fateful plunge into the Atlantic Ocean that took him out of the fight.
Dugan is also an active participant in the modern Marvel Universe, though it's unclear why he hasn't aged. For a time, he even took over for Fury as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Given the character's longstanding association with Fury, it's likely that Dugan would also appear in the S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off movie that Jackson said would follow The Avengers, so if McDonough nabs the role he could be portraying the character for some years to come.
The First Avenger: Captain America was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and will be directed by Joe Johnston. Chris Evans stars in the title role, with Sebastian Stan playing his sidekick, James "Bucky" Barnes, and Hugo Weaving playing the evil Red Skull.
