As promised, here’s Blogomatic3000 reader Stuart’s video of Chris Evans on the Manchester set of Captain America: The First Avenger. Evans is sans costume – however he does run after a car, which suggests this may be a scene featuring a post-Super Soldier serum Steve Rogers…

Kevin Feige shares details about Captain America and Red Skull

September, 8. 2010.

The man behind the Marvel film slate, Kevin Feige, spoke recently about their last project prior to The Avengers 2012 release date, that is Captain America: The First Avenger. Starring Chris Evans as Cap and Hugo Weaving as arch-villain The Red Skull, the film is currently shooting in the UK. Despite this however, very little has come so far from the production in the way of news with the exception of a few boring, show us nothing set pictures (the latest of which you can see below), so Feige was happy to discuss a few details about the film:
Why have you chosen the UK to film Captain America?
Well it’s that two thirds of the film actually takes place in Europe and there are many scenes in and around London. So it just made sense that we film it where the majority of the film takes place. Having been here now for almost two and a half months prepping and twenty-some days into shooting.

The history here is pretty impressive. I was at Pinewood yesterday and you walk past pictures of the set of Tim Burton’s original Batman and all the amazing work that Donner did on Superman. Every time we’re on a new stage in Shepperton somebody tells me this is where the war room was for Dr. Strangelove.
How the Red Skull looking?
Hugo Weaving has been in the Red Skull effect, in costume for a couple of weeks now and it’s a hell of a lot of fun. We gave people a little taste in San Diego about what his character will look like but now that we’ve started to work with the actual skull it’s going to be a lot of fun and a rather frightening villain.
What’s happening with The Avengers?
There’s not much I can tell you but Joss [Whedon] is hard at work with the script and we’ve hired most of our crew. They’re looking to design and build and prepare for when we start filming next year.

Captain America movie set pictures

September, 8. 2010.

The first photographs of the Captain America costume are now online courtesy of The Daily Mail.

The outfit, seen below, is reportedly worn in these shots by a stuntman and not Chris Evans himself. The scene involves a motorbike chase between Steve Rogers and agents of H.Y.D.R.A., as pictured in the second image down. Joe Johnston explains how Captain America will link with other Marvel films

September, 2. 2010.

In a recent short one question one answer interview with CBM director Joe Johnston revealed how Captain America: The First Avenger will tie in with the other Marvel films.

THE QUESTION: Obviously there has been a concentrated effort to tie the various Marvel films together, whether it be Nick Fury in Iron Man, Tony Stark in the Hulk, or Thor's hammer in Iron Man 2. Will that be the case with Captain America as well?

I think we all pretty much assumed that there was going to be a tie in with the movie Marvel Universe, but here's what Johnston had to say:
There are links between all the MARVEL films, mostly ones that only the fans will pick up on. We have several subtle references to certain elements in THOR, but since CAPTAIN AMERICA is a period picture taking place in the 40's, there are fewer opportunities for contemporary links to the rest of the MARVEL universe. We can, however, create events in our story that will be paid off in AVENGERS and other MARVEL pictures.
So it sounds like there will be a few fun placed easter eggs in the film, but not as many tie-in's as maybe we may have thought there would be, which makes sense for the time period like he said. It's easy to tie in the present day films to Captain America, because the event in Captain America already happened, but now the history and origin of The Avengers is being told.

Stanley Tucci talks about Dr. Erskine and Captain America

August, 30. 2010.

Back in June, Marvel Studios announced that Stanley Tucci had joined the cast of "The First Avenger: Captain America" as Dr. Abraham Erskine, the German scientist behind Project Rebirth and the inventor of the Super Soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America.

Although Dr. Erskine is a pivotal figure in backstory of "Captain America," very little is known is known about his personality and motivations. When MTV News recently caught up with Tucci, the actor was asked if Dr. Erskine was a mad scientist or a cool, calm and collected researcher

"He's a combination of both," replied Tucci. "It's so much fun. I did it. I have to go back and finish in October. But I was there for a few weeks in August. It was a great experience."

Tucci also spoke out about his experiences working with director Joe Johnston and other members of the "Captain America" cast.

"Joe Johnston is a wonderful guy and I love the way he's shooting it," related Tucci. "It's really interesting. It's beautiful looking... There's a real power to it and the design is stunning. And Chris [Evans] is great. He's a wonderful guy. And you know, Dominic [Cooper], Haley [Atwell] and Tommy Lee Jones... [They're] great people."

Tucci's comments about working with Dominc Cooper are particularly interesting, as they seem to confirm that Howard Stark will play a role in the creation of the one and only super soldier.

Chris Evans reveals Captain America details

August, 16. 2010.

Speaking to MTV earlier this year at Comic-con, Chris Evans revealed details regarding his preperation for the role of Captain America, his character’s relationship to co-star Sebastian Stan’s Bucky as well as the general tone of the movie.

In the ex-Human Torch’s conversation with MTV, the details of which were released as several separate stories since Comic-con, Evans spoke of his trepidation in taking the role,

It wasn’t an easy yes. I was nervous… I get nervous in things like this and Captain America just means a lot of this. I was in a really happy place in my life; kind of in a happy medium place in my career and Captain America just changes things and there’s no ‘off’ switch once you walk down that road… There was nothing wrong with the project… I love the people involved, the characters, the script, Hugo Weaving. There was nothing wrong there. It was just about the lifestyle change and whether or not I was willing to do it. But there’s no turning back now. I’m just trying to make all the negatives [into] positives and just enjoy the ride.

Captain America filming locations revealed

August, 3. 2010.

BBC News has learned some of the filming locations for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger (some spoilers ahead):

America's First Avenger will battle his foes on the streets of Manchester and Liverpool during filming on the big-budget superhero film.

Manchester's Northern Quarter is to be transformed into 1940s New York for a dramatic car chase in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Producers chose the Northern Quarter to recreate New York because of its towering buildings and pre-war architecture.

The location was organised through the Vision+Media film office, based at Mediacity in Salford Quays, which brought the big budget production of Sherlock Holmes to Manchester and Liverpool.

Susan Williams, drama liaison manager, said the company was approached by the studio, which is also behind the successful Spider Man and Hulk films, in February.

"We suggested the area to Marvel as its wide streets, towering buildings and pre-war architecture will make the perfect 1940s New York."

Residents, local businesses and Manchester City Council have all been consulted about the production, which will last about two weeks from mid September.

Details of scenes due to be filmed at Liverpool's Stanley Dock are yet to be finalised.
