Harrison Ford talks about 'Cowboys & Aliens' and 'Indiana Jones 5'

On Indiana Jones 5: “Oh sure, I’d love to do it,” Harrison told Access Hollywood of a possible fifth film in the Indy franchise. "If there’s something that the three of us can agree on then I’d love to do it,” Harrison continued. “George is working on something now, but I haven’t really seen anything on paper,” Harrison said. “We’ve talked a little bit about it. It would be fun.” On Cowboys And Aliens: “I just finished "Cowboys & Aliens" with Daniel Craig, directed by Jon Favreau,” he said. “It was really a good experience and I had a great time.” “I had thought maybe I’d never get to make another cowboy movie,” Harrison said. "They’re so rare these days, but this was a really intriguing project and I think it’s gonna be very exciting." “It’s a real cowboy movie, looks like a cowboy movie, feels like a classic cowboy movie, and then things happen, and then it goes back to being a cowboy movie with this added element,” he continued. “And I think it’s the kind of film that there’s a real broad audience for. I’m very excited for it. I think it’s going to be good.” Source - comicbookmovie.com Cowboys and Aliens set photos

Jon Favreau talks about "Cowboys & Aliens"
July, 27. 2010.
If anyone knows the power of Comic-Con, it’s actor/writer/director/swinger Jon Favreau, whose journey to mega-global success began with one pitch-perfect panel at Comic-Con, for Iron Man. This year, he flew straight to the Con from the set of his latest film, Cowboys and Aliens, to explain the enigmatic movie to the curious Geekerati. Before entering Hall H with a handcuffed Harrison Ford, however, Favreau met us at the Bayside Hilton in a penthouse suite worthy of Tony Stark. From our perch, we watched fans swarm the convention center and the Gaslamp district like army ants, while a breathless, fresh-off-the-jet Favreau grabbed a glass of water and a breath. Then, he gave us the pleasure of his first interview about Cowboys and Aliens, reflected on the power of Comic-Con, and told us who best to consult on how to design movie aliens. (Hint: his name rhymes with Shmielberg.) Read the rest of the article at - vanityfair.com Sam Rockwell saddles up for "Cowboys & Aliens"

In news that can be filed under “head-explodingly awesome developments,” Sam Rockwell has signed on for a role in the upcoming Dreamworks movie Cowboys and Aliens. I need to sit down. The news, a Heat Vision exclusive, comes on the heels of Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford taking roles in the film, which (in case it wasn’t titularly obvious) is a comic book adaptation which involves cowboys and indians going up against nasty alien foes. The movie is written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof (of Lost fame… oh man, LOST!), and is being directed by Jon Favreau. Rockwell will be playing the role of Doc, the town barman, and once the writing team learned of his involvement they immediately got down to tweaking and expanding the role for him (good move). Okay, I’m madly excited for this movie. But how could you not be? It’s got a great set of writers and a director who are comfortable if not at their best in a sci-fi setting (Favreau’s Zathura trumps Jumanji… watch it). And the cast? If Harrison Ford didn’t melt your mind, Rockwell should do it: he was the best part of Galaxy Quest, and the only part of the absolutely amazing Moon… the man is down with the sci-fi swirl. For a while, it looked like Jon Favreau would be the likeliest candidate to direct Marvel's upcoming The Avengers, which will combine the characters from Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and The First Avenger: Captain America. Favreau chose to direct Cowboys and Aliens instead and stay on as executive producer on The Avengers. Favreau told SuperheroHype that it was not the comic book nature of the movie that attracted him to the project. April, 18. 2010.
Noah Ringer, the unknown who M. Night Shyamalan picked out of thin air in a crazy twist of casting for The Last Airbender, has signed up to join the cast of Cowboys And Aliens, the sci-fi / Western hybrid based on the comic book and directed by Jon Favreau. Now sure, it's got a name inspired by a million playground mash-up games, but it's not quite that simple. The story of the comic contrasts the aliens' colonial attitudes when they invade the Old West with those of the settlers there towards the Native Americans; it's clever, see? And not just about cowboys and Indians teaming up against flying saucers (which, by the way, AWESOME). The script was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, and the film's due out on July 29, 2011 in the US. Source - empireonline.com Harrison Ford joins "Cowboys & Aliens"

All the internet was a-buzz with rumours that Indiana Jones was set to saddle up and star alongside Daniel Craig in Jon Favreau’s sci-fi western Cowboys and Aliens. Today, its director confirmed rumours rather cheekily via Twitter: “Please stop asking if Harrison Ford is in Cowboys & Aliens. Okay? He is. Please don’t tell anybody.” The story centres on the typical European settlers versus Native Americans, but their war is interrupted by some otherworldly bad dudes, so the cowboys and indians team up to kick alien ass. Robert Downey Jr. was originally set to star, but he backed out and was replaced by 007 star Daniel Craig. With Harrison Ford on board, this looks set to be a very cool movie indeed. Ford should be winding down his career – not getting back on a horse for some action and adventure. It’s good to see him attached some worthwhile projects for a change. He’s made some bad choices these past few years. Jon Favreau’s movie definitely isn’t one of them! The script has been worked on by such Hollywood blockbuster dudes as Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Mark Fergus and Hawk Osbty. The film is set to open in July next year. Good stuff! Shortly after Universal Pictures moveed the Peter Berg directed film Battleship July 29th, 2011 to May 25th, 2012. Now the Jon Favreau directed Cowboys & Aliens based on the popular graphic novel will be coming to theaters that weekend instead moving right into a very dominating spot. The DreamWorks project, based on the Platinum Studios Comics graphic novel written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, will star Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof with Favreau directing. The film is a sci-fi Western that explores what would happen if the traditional Old West enemies, cowboys and Native Americans, found the prairie attacked by aliens in mid-1800s Arizona. Craig replaced Robert Downey Jr., after he left the project to film a quick turnaround for Sherlock Holmes 2. Craig will portray the role of Zeke Jackson, a Civil War vet who is caught up in the war between the humans and aliens. The film is scheduled to start shooting this July. Graphic novel adaptation Cowboys And Aliens has had a rough old trot to the screen so far: lingering in development for years, it seemed to get moving again when Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. agreed to make it for DreamWorks. Then Downey Jr jumped off the horse and things looked bleak until Daniel Craig signed on in his place. And now things are really looking up as Olivia Wilde has also been cast in the film. Wilde, best known for her role on TV's House (but scheduled to make jaws drop thanks to her costume in Tron Legacy this December), is in to play cowgirl heroine Ella, who joins up with Craig's mysterious gunslinger to try to help protect humanity from an alien invasion. With a script by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Lost's Damon Lindelof, the film is currently at the mercy of Favreau's post-Iron Man 2 schedule, so we'd assume he'll start work on it in the summer, once the long slog of promotion for the Marvel film is finished Source - empireonline.com Daniel Craig takes on the lead role for "Cowboys & Aliens"

A couple of weeks ago Collider got the scoop from (unnamed) sources that Daniel Craig was being brought in to replace Robert Downey Jr. in the comic book adaptation Cowboys & Aliens (Downey left the project for Sherlock Holmes 2). The news seemed likely but not definite, as scheduling conflicts with the next James Bond flick may have prevented it. However, it appears that Collider‘s sources were right on the money as Deadline Hollywood has now confirmed that Craig will indeed star in Cowboys & Aliens. We’re not sure where this fits in with Bond 23: We heard a little while ago that production had been delayed because of MGM’s financial troubles. However, even more recently we learned that production on Bond 23 was fast-tracked and possibly would start shooting this summer for a release in 2011. If the latter is still true, then I’m not sure how Craig will be able to juggle both Bond 23 and Cowboys & Aliens as they’re both supposed to start shooting this summer. Cowboys & Aliens is an excellent move for Craig, as it gives him another property beyond James Bond that has serious franchise potential. Craig will play Zeke Jackson, the leader of the cowboy resistance fighting against an invading race of aliens who want to enslave mankind in the 1800s. The film is based on a graphic novel of the same name and the screenplay is written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek), as well as Damon Lindelof (Lost). Kurtzman and Orci are producing along with Steven Spielberg, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Platinum Studios’ Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. I’m not familiar with the source material, but the idea of seeing cowboys fight an invading band of aliens, with the director of Iron Man, Jon Favreau, at the helm is certainly not a bad thing. Admittedly I would have preferred to see Downey Jr. star in the movie but Craig is a fine choice too in my opinion. Source - screenrant.com Robert Downey Jr. won't saddle up for "Cowboys & Aliens"

Adding to this week’s trend of superhero bailouts in the form of Stuart Townsend leaving Thor and the entire cast and crew of Spider-Man 4 bailing out with Sony rebooting the franchise, another superhero has dropped out of a project. Well, not exactly, but Robert Downey Jr. and has removed himself from director Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens. According to a source of the LA Times, Downey has left and DreamWorks is now searching for their new lead to ride into the sunset full of UFOs. Favreau will still be directing and the plan is to begin principal photography this year for a summer 2011 release. With RDJ out, a replacement is needed for the role of Zeke Jackson, the hero who leads the gunslingers of the wild west against the pesky extra-terrestrials. DreamWorks will have to find a popular star to fill those shoes. We’re not sure yet on the exact reason for Downey’s dropping out but it’s reasonable to assume he may just have too much on his plate going forward. With this holiday’s Sherlock Holmes kicking off another great franchise, there could be a rush from the studio for a sequel which they spent a lot of time and effort setting up for in this first installment. [Update: We have confirmation that the Sherlock Holmes sequel is the reason that Downey Jr. dropped out of this film.] That’s not all for the comeback star however, as he also has at least another two leading roles in Marvel Studios’ franchise as Tony Stark/Iron Man after Iron Man 2 debuts this May. Downey simply may not have time to dedicate two a third potential franchise. The sci-fi western will surely be a hit with such major players involved as Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci and Damon Lindelof penning the script, producing alongside Steven Spielberg. And of course, Jon Favreau will be helming the project as director. Source - screenrant.com Favreau starts shooting in July, possibly in 3-D

News regarding the adaptation of Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley's "Cowboys and Aliens" has put fans of the sci-fi western source material on something of a seesaw since the property was optioned a few years back. From "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau's tenuous-seeming involvement to various ongoing casting rumors to producers and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof's admission to moving away from the original storyline, it's been hard to get much of a lock on the project. According to The Daily Beast, however, there's a few details fans can count on: Favreau is on board to direct and the Dreamworks film begins shooting this July. Of course, there's still a bit of room for speculation, with TDB wondering if the more than $1 billion to-date box office success of James Cameron's "Avatar" might entice filmmakers to render "Cowboys and Aliens" in 3-D. Even though Dreamworks hasn't confirmed the notion, it's reasonable to imagine the Platinum Studios' comic book plot, which unites rival cowboys and Native Americans against invading aliens on the 19th century Arizona prairie, working with 3-D effects. Robert Downey Jr. has been one of the film's most talked-about contenders for a starring role, but given his hectic schedule, it's still unclear whether he'll be involved in the film at this point. No official casting details have been released at this time, but provided the projected July shooting schedule moves forward as planned, such announcements could very well be making their way down the pipeline in the coming months.
