Doctor Who – TV Show
Doctor Who is a British Sci-Fi television series that is made by the BBC. The show first aired in 1963, and came off the air in 1989. However the show was revamped and re-imagined by Russell T Davis and brought back to television screens in 2005.
Doctor Who is about the adventures of a time travelling alien known as The Doctor, and his companions as they travel through space and time, fighting enemies and defending the universe and the Earth. It’s definitely worth a glance away from Foxy Bingo or your blog to check out. Known as a Timelord, the Doctor is the last of his kind, and travels the universe in his time machine The Tardis: a big blue police box that is bigger on the inside.
What makes Doctor Who so unique to other Sci-Fi series is the secret of its longevity. The character of the Doctor has remained the same person, however when he is close to death, he can cheat it by regenerating into a different body. This means that when an actor has had his fill of playing the Doctor, he is replaced by another who take his personality and adventures in another direction.
So far there have been eleven actors play the doctor: William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Richard Hurndall, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and most recently, number eleven, Matt Smith.
Doctor Who was taken over by the writer Stephen Moffat in 2009, after Russell T Davis stepped down from the role. The difference in their plot and writing styles is distinguishable. Davis loves to slip subtle clues into the narrative, leading to the season finale, whereas Moffat opts towards complicated plots that confuse and bamboozle the viewer through to the end.
