The Avengers – Movie Review

May, the month when everything good comes for watch or play. After burning 3 weeks on Diablo 3, I started to catch up with all the blockbusters of the May and continue with the June cuz there is a lot of great movies and so little time.

After checking out Battleship, even though my brother already wrote his review I will give few of my thoughts on the movie. The script is full of holes and cast is not really top notch but I liked the movie even though I’m not sure where spent 200 million dollars. It’s a good action flick and if you disregard all the plot holes, it’s no worse than Transformers franchise. The media killed the movie before it even got a chance to show what it got. Hasbro idea of making toys into movies works better with Transformers, cuz it is hard to turn board game like Battleship into movie and I believe that if the movie wasn’t connected with the board game would go much better in the cinemas. It actually did pretty good internationally, but in US it failed. Too bad, it didn’t deserve it.

Now on Avengers – superb cast, relatively good story with not many big twists cuz after first 20 minutes you pretty much know in what direction the story will go. Only two events later in the movie I can say I didn’t expect. Diversion on the flying carrier and getting Hulk be the most dangerous thing on board and dying of the agent Coulson. This is one of those movies that was building up since the first Iron Man and Nick Fury show up. We knew it will come one day, so in meanwhile they fill up some story characters movie like Captain America and Thor plus give it a little more intro with Iron Man 2. It was a hit before it even start the production. Totally opposite of Battleship if I can draw the similarity.

Only character that didn’t get its own movie is Black Widow which is a shame cuz from Avengers we see that there is a good story behind her plus Hawkeye is in it so one movie would solve it. The movie might not be total superhero movie but more of assassin vs assassin type action movie, but at least we would get some background on those two. The Hulk movie was made too many times to get another one and Mark Ruffalo did good job in Avengers after Edward Norton declined the offer. One thing I didn’t know is that he became Hulk by using the same gamma radiation that made Captain America, just in much bigger amount which made him pretty unstable and pretty much indestructible. He still couldn’t lift the Mjolnir.

Overall, I like the movie but without Stark, Loki and Hulk the movie would be just another superhero movie. They bring the best scenes while the rest of heroes just blend in in the picture. The Captain America steps up as a leader of the group in the end of the movie with ordering who does what in the fight and Black Widow has her few moments but that’s pretty much it. On the money side, the movie grossed in less than 2 months like 1.5 billion dollars worldwide which makes it a third movie in history that made something like that. The sequel is in development and the fact Samuel L. Jackson signed for 9 Marvel movies as Nick Fury and so far we seen 5 (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and Avengers) so if we count off Avengers 2 and Iron Man 3, we still have 2 more Marvel movies. I hope for the Black Widow, but it will prolly be introduction movies for some new heroes.

So now let us see how Avenger will be against The Dark Knight Rises on box office and let’s wait for Iron Man 3, its already in production and story looks pretty good.
